Discover the freediving world
Purpose
The purpose of the Level 1 Apnea Academy course with Apnea Life Tenerife is to set the basis to instruct students to practice freediving in a aware and satisfactory level. In a more specific way than the discovery course, the contents of the level 1 will be oriented towards the technical study of breathing and relaxation in order to facilitate the students to improve their sensations underwater.
The aim of the course is to create a change in the way in which our students experience their relation with water, allowing them to acknowledge the basis for a greater safety and awareness in the management of their body and emotions in the marine environment.
Requirements
Being older than 14

Medical certification of good health
(the medical visit can be done at one of the affiliated center in the zone of Adeje)
Results to achieve
The execute in a correct way the excercises of the course
( duck dive, finstroke, … )

To hold your breath during a static apnea for at least 1’45”

Swim 30 meters in dynamic apnea

To reach 8 meters depth in constant weight

To score at least the 80% at the test at the end of the course
Course outline
The topics discussed during the Apnea Academy Level 1 course will be:
THEORY LESSONS
- Freediving equipment
- Anatomy and phisiology of the cardiovascular and breathing systems
- Equalization
- Basic law of phisics for freeediving
- Risks of freediving
- Breathing and relaxation
- The marine environment
RELAXATION TECHNIQUES
- Physical relaxation
- Breathing techniques
TRAINING IN THE WATER (open water and swimming pool)
- Use of the equipment
- Finstroke
- Duck dive
- Underwater breaststroke
- Equalization
- Free immersion along the guide rope
- Constant weight freedive (CWT)
- Dynamic apnea at 5 mt depth
- Static apnea
The theory courses will take place at the center of Surf Life Tenerife in Playa de Las Américas.
The open water session of the Apnea Academy Level 1 course will take place in the bay of La Caleta de Adeje.
The lessons in the swimming pool will be held at associated centers.

Useful information
- The course is open from a minimum of 2 persons to a maximum of 4 participants ;
- Every 4 students there will be an instructor ;
- The course include all the equipment necessary for the open water session (wetsuit, masks, snorkel, weight belt, weights, fins), the insurance and videos and pictures of the experience ;
- It can be organized according to the needs of students, in 5 consecutive days or every other day ;
- The organization of the course will be flexible depending on the marine conditions ;
- The open water sessions will be held during the morning, the moment of the day with the best marine conditions ;
- For a good perfomance during the course, we recommend having a good breakfast at least one hour before the beginning of the lessons. It is advisable to bring water and dried fruit with you to consume during the course or at the end of the session in the water.
Freediving course for residents in Tenerife
For residents in the island, we offer the possibility to organize the course during the evening over 2 months.
